Fragrant Brown Rice


  • 2 cups whole brown basmati rice, rinsed and soaked in 4 cups of water for 2 hours
  • 2 cloves
  • 1″ stick of cinnamon
  • 2 pods green cardamom
  • 4 cups water
  • ½ tsp (about 20 strands) saffron
  • 1 tsp unrefined salt


Drain and rinse the soaked rice.

In a pan, roast cloves, cinnamon and cardamom for 1 minute, or until fragrant. Add 4 cups of water, saffron and salt. When the mixture comes to a boil, add soaked rice. Cover the pan and cook on medium heat until the rice is completely done and fluffy. Serve hot.
