From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah...
|
When I started SHARAN in 2005, I was excited to share life-changing information about health. I believed that once people understood how powerful lifestyle changes could be, everyone would want to transform. But I soon learned that while many want better health, very few want to change their habits—especially when medications seem to keep problems under control.
Over the years, many people who initially hesitated returned with more serious diagnoses and a greater willingness to change. Some wished they had acted sooner—sometimes it was too late.
On the other hand, those who felt there was no hope left, who had “one foot in the grave”, were determined to do whatever it took. They followed the guidance wholeheartedly and recovered—often surprising even their doctors and families. Some reversed diseases completely and continue to live medication-free and healthy years later. These transformations have amazed even me.
So if you’ve been sitting on the fence, don’t wait for illness to force your hand. Start small. Begin with simple swaps—one at a time—and build a life you won’t regret. Heart disease, cancer, and chronic kidney disease are preventable. Your health is in your hands.

Seven Steps to Healthy Habits
Swaps are nothing but changing habits. Let these seven steps guide you to how to switch easily into health.
Recipe - Zippy Parsley Dip
Try this yummy dip with crackers or veggie sticks! It’s great for get-togethers, afternoon titbits or even light meals.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup chopped parsley (a few good handfuls of fresh parsley)
- ½ an onion, roughly chopped
- 3 tbsp vegan tofu mayonnaise
- Unrefined salt and pepper to taste
- Juice of 1 lemon (or to taste)
- 200 g tofu
Method
Wash and drain the parsley, discarding any dead leaves (but not the stalks – keep them). Take all the ingredients in a food processor and blend well. That’s it!
Variations
Substituting sun dried tomatoes and herbs instead of parsley can make a great dip in the above recipe or just mixing pitted black olives and tofu. Invent your own combinations.

Are you ready to begin?
Simple Healthy Swaps to Get You Started – pick and choose a few and then add more on as you go along
1. Swap milk & dairy
for cholesterol-free plant-based alternatives. Find recipes on our website and plenty of alternatives in the market if you cannot make them.
2. Swap tea/coffee
for caffeine-free herbal teas and see yourself more relaxed and sleeping better
3. Swap sugary treats
for fruits, green smoothies, and dessert recipes from our website. The fibre in these natural treats helps satiate and reduces the calories
4. Swap white rice & maida
for whole grains like brown rice, red rice, millets, or whole wheat. The fibre fills you up, reduces consumption and slims you down
5. Swap animal protein
for beans, lentils, sprouts & tofu. Same satiation but plant based alternatives are always lower in fat, cholesterol free, and full of fibre
6. Swap scrolling
for strolling in the park or finding your favourite mode of movement – dancing, gym, or a sport
7. Swap late dinners
for early, light, plant-based meals for a deep sleep and an energy filled day ahead
8. Swap late nights
for early mornings – get exercise in fresh air and be prepared for a great day.
9. Swap medicines
for SHARAN consultations which can help you get free of medicines for life!
10. Swap negative thoughts
with positive thoughts. This is IMPORTANT. We have quite a few sessions to help you.
