The Power of Saying No – An Experiential Workshop

Online
Start date: Saturday 31st Oct 2026 4:00 pm IST End date: Saturday 31st Oct 2026 6:00 pm IST

Honouring your needs. Setting healthy boundaries. Letting go of guilt.

Coming Home to Yourself

Do you say yes when you really want to say no? Do you put others first, worry about disappointing people or feel guilty when you choose yourself? Perhaps you take on more than you can manage, keep giving when exhausted, or struggle to express your needs to keep the peace.

Many of us learn through upbringing, relationships and life experiences that being helpful and putting others first are ways of showing love. Over time, we may become so focused on others’ expectations that we lose touch with our own needs.

Even when we know it is okay to say no, guilt, fear and anxiety can make it difficult to put this into practice.

What Are Healthy Boundaries?

Healthy boundaries help us recognise where our needs, feelings and responsibilities end and another person’s begin. They guide how we use our time and energy, what we are comfortable with and what we are willing to give.

Boundaries are not about pushing people away, caring less or always putting ourselves first. They are about finding a healthier balance where we can care for others while respecting ourselves.

Continually saying yes against our wishes can leave us drained, overwhelmed or resentful. Communicating our needs with honesty and compassion creates space for more balanced and meaningful relationships.

About the Workshop

The Power of Saying No is an experiential workshop that invites you to pause, reflect and understand your relationship with boundaries.

Through guided reflection, self-awareness exercises, journaling and practical activities, we will explore the patterns that make it difficult to honour our needs, how self-worth influences boundaries, and how guilt, anxiety and beliefs about love, acceptance and responsibility shape our choices and relationships.

The intention is to understand these patterns with greater awareness and compassion, rather than judge ourselves for them.

What Will We Explore?

During this workshop, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Understand your relationship with saying no: Recognise the situations and relationships in which expressing your needs feels difficult.
  • Explore your boundary patterns: Understand the difference between overly porous boundaries, rigid boundaries and the balance that supports healthy connection.
  • Connect self-worth with boundaries: Reflect on how the need for approval, fear of rejection and past hurt influence your relationships.
  • Understand guilt and anxiety: Explore the effects of saying yes against your wishes and how unexpressed needs can lead to exhaustion and resentment.
  • Question limiting beliefs: Examine thoughts such as “Saying no is selfish” or “I am responsible for keeping everyone happy.”
  • Practise communicating with clarity and compassion: Explore ways to pause before committing, express your limits and say no honestly, without unnecessary guilt or aggression.

What Might You Take Away?

You may gain a deeper understanding of your personal patterns, greater awareness of the needs you overlook and clarity about where healthier boundaries are needed. You will also identify one small, practical step to begin applying in everyday life.

Change need not happen all at once. It can begin by noticing when you are about to say yes automatically, pausing and asking yourself what you genuinely need.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop may be meaningful if you:

  • Often put others first and struggle to make time for yourself.
  • Find it difficult to say no to family, friends or colleagues.
  • Worry about disappointing people or being seen as selfish.
  • Feel responsible for other people’s feelings or problems.
  • Feel emotionally drained from giving too much.
  • Want healthier relationships while learning to honour your own needs.

You do not need to have all the answers or be ready to change everything. All you need is a willingness to pause, reflect and understand yourself more deeply.

A Gentle Reminder

Learning to say no is not about caring less; it is about caring without continually abandoning yourself.

You can be kind and still have limits. You can love someone and have needs of your own. You can respect another person’s feelings without taking responsibility for every emotion they experience.

You can begin creating relationships in which your needs matter too.

Sometimes, saying no to someone else is the beginning of saying yes to yourself.
