Why should you make your own soaps?

Commercial soaps often contain ingredients that may not be ideal for our health and well-being.

As we take our baby steps towards better health and a greener environment, making your own soaps helps you stay cruelty-free and avoid many of the chemicals that your skin absorbs. This workshop focuses on making melt-and-pour vegan soaps that are simple, practical, and enjoyable to create.

What do you get to learn?

In this special workshop with plant-based soap maker Sharmila Kannan, you will learn every step involved in making vegan and cruelty-free soaps, right from purchasing raw materials to using additives such as:

• Plant-based butters
• Plant extracts
• Natural clays
• Natural essential oils
• Natural scrubs
• Natural and synthetic colours

You will also learn about:

• The equipment required for soap making
• Packaging your soaps
• Creating your own soap recipes
• Introduction to designer soaps

This is easy to learn and can become an engaging hobby, a creative outlet, or even a source of income if you wish to take it further.

We will be making the following soaps:

• Basic Lavender Soap
• Basic Clear Soap
• Basil Neem Soap (Extract Use)
• Calamine Clay Soap (Use of Clay)
• Liquorice Soap (Use of Powder)
• Haldi Chandan Soap (Use of Butters)
• Ocean Breeze Soap (Soap Naming)
• Loaf Soap (Introduction to Designer Soaps)
• Scrub Soap
  – use of Oats
  – use of Walnut
• Designer Soap

Since some formulations will use synthetic colours, we will also share details of suppliers who provide natural plant-based colours that can be used as alternatives.

WhatsApp Support Group:

A WhatsApp group will be formed a day prior to the workshop. The group will remain active for 3 months from the start of the workshop (3rd July 2026) to provide support, answer queries, and guide you as you continue your soap-making journey and experiment with your creativity.

Written Material:

A detailed PDF file containing instructions and workshop notes will be available on your dashboard. We recommend to keep a printout of the same during the workshop.
