From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah...
|
I recently had to get my washing machine repaired. The serviceman diagnosed an expensive part that needed replacing, and I agreed to the repair. But problems began soon after. He promised to return and fix itโbut then stopped answering my calls. Learning from this, I contacted the authorized service centre. They replaced the part all over again, claiming the earlier one was poorly installed and not genuine. It worked for the first wash, and thenโthere was a short circuit. I called the multinational companyโs customer care twice, but they acted confused. I followed up with an emailโno response.
Thatโs when I realized the disturbing truth: everyone was complicit. Even the authorized service centre, supposedly more reliable, was cutting corners and profitingโat the brandโs expense. I was left to deal with the consequences.
Sadly, this isnโt just about washing machines. This pattern is everywhereโin politics, agriculture, tourism, education, food, and especially medicine. Packaged food companies arenโt concerned about your healthโtheyโre focused on shelf life and sales. Pharma companies often aim for profits over prevention, and hospitals operate with targets, not just treatments.
Is there anyone you can truly trust?
Yes, there is. Your own bodyโand nature.

The above video was shot in one of our earlier retreats and will provide you with a glimpse of how eco-friendly we like to be.
Recipe - Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tbsp date paste
- 1 tbsp cashew butter/coconut butter
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp unrefined salt
Method
In a bowl, add all the ingredients, except water and mix well to a crumbly texture. Add water a little at a time and make a soft dough without lumps. Knead this dough for 5 minutes. Cover and keep aside for 30 minutes for the first rising, until it doubles in size. (If this doesnโt happen, that means the yeast has expired and you need to restart with a fresh batch of yeast).
Knead the dough lightly and give it whatever shape you desire- pizza base, bread sticks, sandwich loaf, baguette, pita pockets, pav, dinner rolls etc. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and keep for a second rising for 15-20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 180 ยฐC for 10-15 minutes. Bake the bread for 25-40 minutes, depending on the shape that you have made. (Breadsticks will take less time, while sandwich loaf will take more time). Insert a knife to test if the bread is baked or knock on it. If it sounds hollow, itโs done. Remove onto a wire rack to cool completely, before slicing or cutting. Serve.

Is there anyone you can truly trust?
Your body will never lie to you. It sends early warning signs when something is off. If you silence those signs with medication instead of addressing the root cause, it will only raise its voice louder. You are receiving critical messages all the time. The question is: are you listening?
Things to understand so that you can listen better to your body and nature.
1. Be aware of conditioning
Remember that just because everyone does something doesnโt make it right or good for you. We have all been conditioned by our culture and advertisements. For example, we have been told we are omnivores but our anatomy and physiology say otherwise. We should look closer at the logic.
2. Donโt believe everything you read
Today anyone can pay to put an article in the newspaper and awards are often paid for, and research outcomes are often predetermined. Do your own research and till then keep an open mind. Think about how nature recommended it.
3. Listen closely to your body
If you have a symptom, donโt ignore it. Think about what it signifies, what your body needs you to change. Avoid short term solutions like medications. Make the necessary changes in accordance with natureโs laws. You will not be disappointed.
4. Beware of all chemicals
Whether they are ingredients in your food or medications or in your perfumes, pest control or mosquito repellent. They are making their way inside your body and may cause havoc. Chemicals are often hormone disruptors and carcinogens.
5. Beware of toxic packaging and utensils
Aluminium is a common metal in which foods are cooked and also packed. For example, soft drinks may be canned in aluminium. Similarly, copper is another metal that can find its way into our bodies. Use safe packaging and cookware. Avoid Teflon (non-stick) and plastics.
6. Think about nature
In nature everything exists in symbiosis. If doing something is bad for another, it is probably bad for you too. Today we have destroyed nature and the result is that we are facing climate change.
