Please complete this page and test your knowledge before proceeding to the next page

Congratulations—you have finished week two of the SHARAN 21-Day Online Diabetes Reversal Programme! Today you will learn how to evaluate your progress including what to do if your blood sugar level is too low or high. You’ll also learn how to prepare alternatives to some traditionally unhealthy dishes including pizza and potato wedges.

Evaluate your progress

If you have adopted a whole food, plant-based diet and tried some new recipes, give yourself a pat on the back—well done! You are well on your way to reversing your diabetes and also preventing or reversing a host of other associated diseases. You have probably noticed some beneficial improvements to your health like lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels; reduced acidity; weight loss; less headaches, migraines, and joint pain; and more energy.

Sometimes other health problems like high blood pressure and cholesterol improve before diabetes. In case your blood sugars have not yet come down but other problems have improved, have patience and cut down medications, which are no longer needed with the help of your doctor or SHARAN doctor. Diabetes can be promoted by some medications such as statins (cholesterol-lowering medications). If you haven’t adopted the diet fully for the past two weeks yet, it may take a few more days to see results—be patient!

Watch this video by Dr. Nandita Shah to learn what to do if your blood sugar level is too low or high.

Key Points

  • If your blood sugar level is below 80 at any time (fasting of PP), consult your doctor or a SHARAN doctor to reduce your medications if you haven’t already so that you can avoid hypoglycemic episodes!
  • If your blood sugar level has gone down some, but not enough, it’s still a good result! Stick to the diet and it should come down enough for you to reduce your medications soon.
  • If your blood sugar level has not gone down, consult your doctor or a SHARAN doctor about reducing your blood pressure medications if necessary and discontinuing your statins and blood thinning medications if you are following the diet diligently and have no history of heart interventions (e.g., stents, bypass, or other surgeries).
  • If you’re feeling stressed, watch the videos by Nithya Shanti again and incorporate meditation, relaxation, and other calming practices into your daily life to help reduce stress. You can also consult a psychotherapist or a counsellor.

You should never feel deprived on a whole food, plant-based diet—almost any dish can be converted to a healthy, vegan meal! Today you’ll learn how to prepare some delicious alternatives to some traditionally unhealthy dishes including pizza and potato wedges.
