Soy or soya bean has got a bad rap for its phytoestrogens. However, phytoestrogens are not estrogens and are not going to unbalance the hormone levels. It is high in protein and can be had safely in moderate quantities, like everything else. But if you do not like it, there is no compulsion to include it in your plant-based diet. You will get all the protein you need from dal, lentils, pulses, greens and vegetables.
Soy can be harmful if it is GMO. Fortunately, in India, soy is not GMO.
