From the desk of Dr. Nandita Shah...
|
On Earth Day, we are reminded that our only home—the Earth—is precious. And perhaps now more than ever, it’s clear that human health and planetary health are deeply interconnected.
We are witnessing a rise in lifestyle and chronic diseases—heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions—many of which are preventable, yet increasingly common.
At the same time:
• While we live with chronic low-grade inflammation, the Earth is heating up with global warming.
• Her lungs—the forests—are being destroyed, while we struggle with respiratory illnesses from polluted air.
• Her arteries—the rivers and streams—are choked, just as we face hypertension and heart disease.
• Toxins like plastics and non-biodegradable waste accumulate in nature, while our bodies deal with fatty liver, constipation and poor gut health.
• Biodiversity is shrinking, replaced by the expansion of human activity and animal agriculture—resembling the unchecked growth of cancer cells.
At SHARAN, we believe that true healing comes from aligning with nature—through the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the choices we make every day.
This Earth Day, let’s not just celebrate the planet—let’s commit to living in a way that allows both the Earth and all of us to thrive.

This Earth Day, Heal Yourself. Heal the Planet
The truth is simple: When we care for the Earth, we care for ourselves. And while we may not change the world overnight, every conscious choice we make matters.
What You Can Do
1. Eat a whole food plant-based diet
This is one of the most powerful actions you can take—for your health and for the planet. It reduces the burden of animal agriculture, conserves resources, and lowers disease risk.
2. Choose local and seasonal foods
Support local farmers, reduce food miles, and enjoy fresher, more nutritious produce.
3. Avoid processed and packaged foods
This reduces exposure to additives and cuts down plastic waste.
4. Minimise oil, sugar, and salt
A simple, natural diet is healing for the body and lighter on the Earth.
5. Say no to plastics wherever possible
Carry your own bags, bottles, and containers. Microplastics are now found in our water, food, and even our bodies.
6. Use natural alternatives to chemicals
Reduce use of perfumes, pesticides, incense, and harsh cleaning agents. Cleaner air supports healthier lungs.
7. Be mindful of water use
Don’t forget that animal agriculture is a leading driver of water usage.
8. Move mindfully and consume less
Walk more, drive less where possible. Buy only what you truly need. Overconsumption harms both personal and planetary health.
9. Reduce food waste
Cook mindfully, store food properly, and compost kitchen waste where possible.
10. Stay informed and inspire others
Share knowledge, lead by example, and be part of a community that supports conscious living.
