From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah...

October 2nd is Gandhi Jayanti and also the International Day of Non-Violence.
Today, we live in a stressful world plagued by wars, violence, and human rights violations. Yet, compassion, kindness, and connection with all living beings are our intrinsic nature. Unfortunately, our culture often desensitises us, urging us to prioritise profits over principles—a trap of fleeting pleasures that humanity struggles to escape.
While we focus on conflicts between ourselves—in wars, detention camps, and prisons—we remain blind to the far greater violence we inflict on other sentient beings: the 80–85 billion land animals killed each year for food. If we simply stopped raising and killing animals, the crops grown to feed them could more than prevent global starvation. We would, in fact, create abundance.
Albert Einstein once said: “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” And Dr. Albert Schweitzer reminded us: “Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living beings, man will not himself be free.”
Imagine a world where everyone is fed, no one lives in fear, and peace extends to every living being. This is possible—and veganism is the key. Today, it’s simpler than ever before. The rewards? Vibrant health, ecological recovery, and the real possibility of peace.
Gandhi said, “Truth is my religion and ahimsa is the only way of its realization.” On this Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non-Violence, may we choose ahimsa—not just in words, but in every bite we take.

The Foundations of Peace
Peace is our original nature, however somewhere we have got disconnected. That is why we are stressed and even experiencing ‘dis’ease. Join Dr. Nandita Shah & spiritual teacher Nithya Shanti as they focus on two foundations of peace – Peace on your Plate and Peace on your Mind.
Recipe - Instant Vegan Curd
Bring in peace on your plate as you make this super quick recipe, which is ideal for your raitas, dahi wadas, chaats etc.

- 200 g tofu (silken or firm)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ tsp mustard seed (rai) powder
- ¼ tsp black salt
- ¼ tsp unrefined salt
Method
Simply blend all the ingredients to a smooth creamy consistency. With silken tofu no water will be needed, with firm tofu add 2-3 tablespoons of water to help with blending. Use as needed for chaas, raitas, curd rice, etc., or simply sprinkle chaat masala on top and serve.

6 Ways to Bring More Peace into Your Life
1. Go Vegan
Choosing plant-based foods is one of the most powerful steps toward peace. Animal products—whether dairy, eggs, or meat—come from systems built on violence. A vegan lifestyle aligns your plate with compassion.
2. Understand Symbiosis
Every species exists in delicate interdependence. When humans believe other beings exist solely for our use, we upset the natural balance—and harm ourselves in the process. Living with respect for all life restores harmony.
3. Embrace Compassion
Deep down, we are all compassionate beings. Yet our culture often places profits above principles. Compassion not only brings peace to others, it nourishes our own hearts far more than material gain ever could.
4. Help the Less Fortunate
Acts of kindness toward those in need remind us of our own blessings. Helping others cultivates gratitude and expands our sense of connection.
5. Give Generously
True abundance flows from giving. The more we give—whether time, love, or resources—the more life returns it to us. What we share comes back multiplied.
6. Join a Cause
Every effort counts. By supporting or volunteering with organisations that work for positive change, you contribute to a ripple effect. Remember, even one drop helps create the ocean. And perhaps, you might even start your own movement.
