You must be smiling at this question! Obviously we all experience stress, sometimes even on a daily basis. But does this have any relation to our food?
When we are stressed, we produce adrenaline. When animals are stressed, they too produce adrenaline and this comes back to us through animal based food.
Let’s hear Sandhyaashree’s story of how she discovered the relationship between stress and food.
Now that you are only eating plant based foods, do you feel any difference in your state of mind? Seriously reflect upon this. Many people notice this after being completely plant based for a month or so. Perhaps your spouse or family members have noticed a change.
Now, if you even eat animal products either by mistake or because you cannot resist, please notice how you feel the next day. Is it any different?
Despite the change in diet, if you are still stressed, there is more that you can do. Join a spiritual group or class or listen to any spiritual master that inspires you. Or perhaps read an inspiring book to learn how to handle stress better. It’s really important that we learn to manage our minds before it manages us. Remember that this is personal growth that happens over a period of time. Be gentle with yourself.
Remember the last time that you were stressed? What did you eat? Was it salty, fatty or sugary? Think again, is there something that you have often when you are stressed? Jot this down, and keep this awareness in your memory, so that you will catch yourself before stress related eating.
