Bread Upma

This is an excellent recipe if you have bread which is going hard. Always use whole wheat bread.


  • 4 slices organic whole wheat bread, crumbled
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 2 tsp urad daal
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • chopped fresh coriander for garnish
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • asafoetida
  • salt to taste


Temper the urad daal, mustard seeds and asafoetida in a pan. Add green chilies, onions and fry. When they begin to brown, add tomatoes and ginger and cook a little. Stir in the bread. Add salt to taste. Turn off the flame and add lime juice, coriander and serve.

Serves 2-3
