Vegan cheese available at Auroville market
SHARAN has been selling vegan cheese at the Auroville Saturday market. The cheeses come in five different flavours. We have an amazing Boursin made from tofu, cashew nuts, garlic and herbs. And then we have five flavours of firm cheese - black pepper, green pepper, red pepper, caraway seeds, and coriander seeds. These are made from cashews fermented in rejeuvelac. We plan to make these cheeses in even more flavours. Our customers are given free samples to taste on bread.
We sell the cheeses on slices of bread, and in plastic takeaway containers of 100g and 250g. And of course the ecologically-conscious bring their own containers for refills. So far we are never able to make enough cheese to satisfy our customers. All the ingredients for our cheeses are 100% organic. The Boursin can be stored in the fridge for at least three days, and the other cheeses will last at least 10 days. The firm cheeses are excellent for baking as well. We hope that manufacturers in different cities will start making these cheeses so that vegan cheese will be available to all. Meanwhile, recipes are on our website. At our stalls, we also have brochures about the reasons for being vegan, and CDs covering various vegan topics from philosophy, and ethics, to cooking.
