Seminars held in Bangalore: Reduce your Carbon Footprint with every bite
On Friday 26th March and Saturday 27th March, Dr Nandita Shah conducted 2 identical 3-hour seminars in Bangalore. These seminars were co-organized by the Indian Youth Climate Network, Green Path, Era Organic, Common Floor, The Times Foundation and supported by FIAPO. Each seminar drew about 40 participants. On the 26th it was held at the Times of India, MG road, and on the 27th it was held at The Green Path, an eco-hotel in Bangalore. The seminars had a wide range of participants, all of whom were very enthusiastic about the things they learnt. Some of them were vegans but for many the concepts were totally new. Although changing our food choices has a much more significant impact on our planet than switching to a fuel efficient car or changing a lightbulb, it is the one issue that is often avoided.
This seminar was about the effects of factory farming and animal agriculture on our environment first and then on our health. We spoke about the effects of a plant-based diet on our health, our protein requirements and why most of us are suffering from protein over-nutrition, and how we can reverse many diseases by switching to a plant based diet.
At the end, a vegan video was shown followed by the Peta Dairy Report. Participants were given these Environmental and Health Fact sheets, and had the option of taking a tool kit with these and other videos so that they could share with others what they had learnt.
During both seminars Carnival Cakes served their amazing vegan cakes and savouries which were appreciated along with the vegan chai by all. At the Green Path seminar Pristine Organics also gave samplings of their amazing organic millet and other breakfast cereals.
