Korean Vegan Festival
Some people who have turned vegan are anxious to spread their new-found health and compassion to their friends. But being vegan in a non-vegan world is not that easy. Recently, Bori, a young Korean woman visited me and told me her story of how she became a vegan. After seeing a video by PETA she and her boyfriend decided they had to change. Her boyfriend switched immediately and Bori took a few months but there is no looking back for her. She wanted to do something vegan in Auroville.
What better way to reach people's hearts than through their stomachs? We decided to do a Korean vegan dinner at the Visitor's Centre in the Centre of Auroville. Bori gathered a team of young Korean friends and put together a menu. We all helped cook and we put together an amazing dinner. The idea was to let our guests know that eating vegan can be both tasty and healthy. We are not sure that all our 130 guests will make the switch but we are sure that all of them enjoyed the food and the evening. Bori spoke to them a little bit about veganism and the food after the dinner just to let them know that the wonderful meal that they had enjoyed had not harmed any animals.
If you have a social event, do think about making it vegan. Nandita will be happy to help planning vegan menus for all occasions with recipes and ideas. We think it's a great way to get more of our friends to eat more compassionately. We have found that restaurants and caterers are often glad to meet the challenge because they learn something new in the process. Please do contact us if you would like help to make a special occasion vegan.
