Volunteer opportunities at SHARAN

SHARAN is a small organization run mainly from Auroville, Tamil Nadu, India. Our office has only 3 desks and can hold a maximum of 4 people but we are a very ambitious and hard working organization. SHARAN's Goals : Education in the fields of Natural Health, Animal Rights and Organic Farming. We are looking for someone to join our office as an intern or volunteer. Qualifications: The applicant should be
  • A vegan or aspiring vegan
  • Who would like to spread the message of veganism as a way to help animals, as well as human beings through the connection to global warming and climate change, food shortages, and deforestation
  • Who has basic knowledge about veganism and its connection to health, animal welfare and environment
  • Has a good command over the English language as well as the ability to learn new languages
  • Has the ability and desire to work on his/ her own initiative for the cause
  • Has some exceptional skills that can be used for this - public speaking and public relations / vegan cooking and demos / vegan restaurant experience / graphic design / creative writing / film making / event management / fund raising / computer programming
The job will involve many areas:
  • Data entry and processing, updating the website through a simple content management system. A basic knowledge of computers and programs is required and the ability to read and decipher a variety of handwritings
  • Accounting and running errands
  • Public relations and contacting people, phone calls
  • Simple website maintenance
  • Communications - sending newsletters and notices
  • As well as something related to the applicant's exceptional skills
The applicant is required to stay with the organization for at least 6 months (flexible if needed, please ask) and to pay for his / her own travel to India and for basic costs for the first month. After this period SHARAN will provide housing and will pay for some expenses. For anyone who is willing to work hard the job will offer a lot of experience which will help the applicant in running his or her own vegan business in the future or running a non profit organization or to run vegan (or non vegan) campaigns. The applicant will also benefit from the cultural experience of living in Auroville, an international community and living in India. The applicant will be working 40 hours a week but on flexible terms. After the initial 1 month trial period if both parties are happy, SHARAN would be willing to cover the cost of housing in Auroville and perhaps more depending on the skills. After one year he / she may be offered a permanent job with higher salary and responsibilities if he wants.
