City Farming workshops

NEW - City farming workshops. Learn to grow your own organic fruits and vegetables in your terrace. Taking place in Mumbai

Preeti Patil, well known for the terrace garden that she has created at the Port Trust, Mumbai, has now started giving City Farming workshops on behalf of SHARAN. Preeti got interested in this when she saw that huge amounts of kitchen waste at the Port Trust, where she works were just going... waste! She uses the very same methods of making masala mitti that we are using on the farm and she has done a lot of documentation about these methods. Here terrace garden boasts all kinds of fruits and vegetables and even strawberries, which one would think could never grow on a Mumbai terrace!

We are absolutely excited and grateful to have Preeti join SHARAN with this project. There are several advantages to the City Farmer and his family.

  1. Organic waste is gainfully utilized - all the organic waste of your building can be collected for this project reducing the garbage load on the city.
  2. You will reap wonderful organic fruits and vegetables, which taste better and are healthier than any of the produce in the city's markets.

Preeti is also an expert in healthy cooking - she has studied under Vijaya Venkat at The Health Awareness Institute, Mumbai.

Several workshops have already been conducted. If you are interested in learning this technique or even seeing other Terrace Farms, please contact Preeti.
